A small-sized laser cutting machine with low laser power has a work area of (50cm X 30cm X 10cm). This machine has three axes (X, Y, Z). The axis (X), called Gantry, allows the laser cutting head to move along a space of (50cm). The (Y) axis is perpendicular to the (X) axis and divided into two axes (Y1, Y2) that represent the two sides of the machine. The (Z) axis is represented by the movement of the work table perpendicular to the (X, Y) axes. The (X) axis can move along the (Y) axis to a space of (30cm), and the (Z) axis can move up or down to a space of (10cm). The benefit of table movement is the gradual cutting ability and the ability to cut through thick materials during engraving procedures on the surface without cutting all the way through. The used motors are stepper motors, with three motors according to the number of axes that are used. The motors have medium accuracy, as they can turn (1.8) degrees with every pulse. To turn one complete rotation, we need (200) pulses. The loading torque for each motor is (0.43N.m).

Regarding the movement method for each axis: for the (X, Y) axes, the method to generate the linear movement is to use synchronous pulleys connected to the stepper motor. The movement can be achieved by means of wheels that move on rails chosen from aluminum profile catalogs. The wheels have grooves with (V) shape. Regarding the work table movement, in addition to the synchronous pulleys and belt, the ballscrew way is followed - but without balls - by using a threaded rod and rotary float nut. So when the rod is turned, the nut goes up and down. The table is held by four rods.

The used laser is (CO2) kind with low power (40 watts) and a reflection mirror kit to guide the laser vector toward the laser cutting head. The outside dimensions of the machine are (1000mm X 600mm X 330mm).
